Rochdale shows it’s an accommodating borough
Date published: 08 May 2012
Rochdale’s packed events programme for 2012 has been given another boost now that the borough can claim to have more 3-5* accommodation than anywhere else in Greater Manchester other than Manchester city centre.
Rochdale borough boasts 23 quality accommodation providers, placing it ahead of eight of its neighbours which range from having between eight and 20 providers with 3 to 5 stars.
And the trend is on the up, with six more providers being added to the list in the last five years.
The star ratings system is run by the English Tourist Board and the AA and accommodation providers in the scheme are inspected each year.
Tim Nuttall, Tourism Officer for Rochdale Borough Council, said: “Rochdale has always had a fantastic accommodation offer, not only because our providers have really high standards, but also because we have such a broad range, from luxurious hotels to rural cottages high on our moors where people can self cater.
“These figures are yet another reason for people to come to Rochdale borough and see what we have to offer. There are not many places which combine beautiful countryside, extensive heritage and all manner of outdoor sporting activities, whilst also enjoying easy access to Manchester city centre and the North West motorway network.”
And this year is a bumper year of events for the borough, following the naming of Rochdale as the World Capital of Cooperatives. Co-operative events will be taking place all year, and history buffs can also enjoy a free town centre heritage trail which will be led by Blue Badge Guides every other Saturday and during the week throughout the summer. A host of events will mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee on 4 June and the Olympic Torch will arrive in our borough on 23 June.
