Crackdown on burglary results in 22 arrests

Twenty two people have been arrested as part of a crackdown on burglary in the Middleton, Chadderton and Blackley areas.

Operation Slains ran throughout April 2012, and saw officers from Greater Manchester Police’s Rochdale, Oldham and North Manchester divisions working together to target offenders.

Twenty arrests were made for burglary and theft-related offences, and are broken down as follows – 10 arrests for burglaries at residential premises, two for burglaries at non-residential premises, one for the offence of going equipped to steal, four for theft and three for handling stolen goods.

Police also arrested an offender who was wanted on warrant, and another offender who had breached their curfew was recalled to prison.

Superintendent John Graves of Greater Manchester Police’s Rochdale Division, who led the operation, said: “This is an excellent result for the operation and the people living in these communities. We have used officers from three different divisions, and the joint approach has really paid dividends.

“It has helped to galvanise cross-border relationships and the impact it has had on reducing crime is there for all to see. This operation will continue for the foreseeable future and we will continue to pursue those responsible for crime relentlessly.”
