The new facilities at Brownhill Learning Community
Contracts have been signed for a new £4m study centre at Brownhill Learning Community (BLC) at its site in Heights Lane, Rochdale.
The new study centre will be a single story building consisting of five key areas made up of three learning clusters, a support wing and a separate performance area, that will all be accessed from an open plan, multifunctional ‘street’. The centre will completely replace the existing buildings and is due to open in April 2013.
The new building will have ICT provision that will include the ability to use mobile devices throughout.
Externally, a new informal sports pitch will be established adjacent to the performance/sports hall allowing easy access from the changing rooms.
A new Darnhill Study Centre on Sutherland Road in Heywood is already halfway through construction.
Cheryl Eastwood, Executive Director for Children’s Services at Rochdale Borough Council, said: “The new study centre on Heights Lane will be the perfect complement for the new facilities that are being provided at the Darnhill Study Centre. Together they will provide excellent resources to engage young people in learning.”
Victoria Barras, inspiredspaces’ Project Development Manager for the scheme, said: “It has been a pleasure to work with the senior management team at Brownhill Learning Community (BLC) who have, through engagement sessions, heavily influenced the design of the new facility in order to ensure that the requirements of the students and staff are encompassed in a modern, purpose built teaching and learning environment.”
