RBH’s Junior Wardens cook up a feast
Members of the RBH ‘Constitution Commission’ were rewarded for their work over the last year with a meal prepared and cooked by the ‘Come Dine With Us’ project volunteers.
A mixture of keen RBH tenants and Junior Wardens got together to showcase the culinary skills and techniques which they developed over a week’s cookery course and served up a real treat!
Volunteer, Lochnate Dzomba said: “I am going to use what I have learned in the future as part of my personal development because I intend to work in the catering industry.”
The project has also seen some fantastic partnership working. Veenas restaurant in Heywood kindly supported the event by offering up their kitchen facilities and shared their culinary knowledge with the volunteers. Veenas Head Chef, Farooq Ahmed said: “I have really enjoyed teaching. Everyone was very focused on what they were learning. They can take this experience away with them, use it again and again and share it with others.”
The Constitution Commission was established to develop the rules for the new mutual RBH. They were among the first tenants and employees to sign up as members of the new mutual.
RBH’s Communities First ‘Come Dine With Us’ project was recently short-listed for a Tenant Participation Advisory Service (TPAS) Award in the ‘Excellence in Youth Involvement Award’ category and has been enthusiastically received by many tenants groups.
The Co-operative has been hugely supportive during the development of RBH’s mutual plans in sharing their wealth of experience and best-practice, particularly relating to member engagement.
The event provided an ideal opportunity to support the launch of the Co-operative College’s summer project, ‘Bee-have’.
A Co-op representative was on hand to give a short presentation and share bee-related facts and explain the links between bees and the co-operative movement, which uses the beehive as a symbol.
