Welcome back – we hope that your Easter break was enjoyable, happy and relaxing.

As we set off on yet another busy term we would like to remind parents and carers of Year 11 students that final GCSE exams are almost upon us therefore it is vital that students are doing as much preparation as possible at home. Please support your children in this by ensuring that they have a quiet space to work at evenings and weekends, and if possible, help them with their revision.

Could parents and carers of Year 10 students also please note that parents’ evening takes place on Thursday 26 April between 4.00pm and 7.30pm. Your child should be in the process of making appointments for you to see their teachers.

Next, some news about our sporting success. First, we would like to say “well done” to Bailey Smythe, Jamie Pope, William Taylor and Brandon Kwei-Sutcliffe, for competing in the Winter Games Table Tennis Tournament at the Eastlands Stadium just before Easter. Our team had already won the right to represent Rochdale in this competition, and they performed exceptionally well against some fantastically talented and more experienced opposition. We were drawn in a very tough group, which included teams from Altrincham Grammar School, Hulme Grammar School and St. James Sports College. Although they did not manage to qualify for the semi-finals, they did play really well. Notable victories including Bailey Smythe beating Hulme Grammar School’s number 1 seed and all our players beating the team from Stockport.

Our netball teams from Years 7, 8, 9 and 11 all played fixtures against Siddal Moor recently, winning all 4 matches. Year 7 won by 14 points to nil, Year 8 by 9 points to 1, Year 9 by 19 points to 6 and Year 11 by a close 8 points to 7. Well done to all our players for fantastic effort and commitment and thank you also to everyone who came to support the girls – we know that they really do appreciate the encouragement you give.

Finally, congratulations to our Year 11 boys’ basketball team who beat Smithills School from Bolton to become the Lancashire Champions just before Easter. Well played lads.
