Tesco cash-in-transit robbery - descriptions
Date published: 16 April 2012
Police have issued descriptions of two men after a cash-in-transit robbery at Tesco Rochdale.
One man is described as being white, in his mid 20s and of muscular build. He wore dark clothing and tracksuit pants.
The second man is described as being white, 5ft 6ins tall, of stocky build, in his early or mid 20s, had short fair blonde hair and had a pale complexion. He wore a grey jacket with a white hood and grey tracksuit pants.
At around 4pm on Thursday 12 April 2012, a security worker was collecting money from the Tesco store on Silk Street, Castleton when he was approached by two men.
One of the men sprayed the victim in the face with a substance believed to be pepper spray and grabbed a money bag.
Both men ran off and escaped in a red Nissan Almera.
Detective Constable Richard Shelton from Rochdale CID said: "These men had no concern of the safety of their victim and did not think twice about the consequences of spraying him with the substance. Thankfully, he was not seriously injured.
"I would urge anyone who may have witnessed the robbery or saw the two men driving off at speed in the car to contact police."
Anyone with information should phone police on 0161 856 4644 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
