Soap stars turn out for Adam Kutereba

Date published: 16 April 2012

Some of the nations finest television soap stars turned out for a celebrity football match versus a Littleborough 'Elite' at Fox Park, Rochdale (the home of Sacred Heart FC) to raise funds for Adam Kutereba.

Adam, from Littleborough, was born 13 weeks premature weighing just 2lbs 8ozs, he suffered 2 lung haemorrhages and a brain haemorrhage within the first 4 days of his life. He was given a 10% chance of survival, he was in hospital for 12 weeks before he was well enough to come home.

Due to the brain haemorrhage, Adam was left with Tetraplegic Cerebral Palsy, it affects both his legs and his right arm. Adam cannot stand unaided and when not in his wheelchair he crawls to get around. He can walk very short distances inside with the help of a walking frame. His muscles are very tight so he is unable to get his legs straight so it is difficult for him to sit if not in a chair.

Adam's parents, Rachel, 33 and Rick, 34, have launched the ‘Adam Kutereba SDR Fund’ and hope to raise £60,000 to send their son to St Louis Children’s Hospital in Missouri, America, for an operation (Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy) that should significantly improve the quality of Adam's life.

The money will cover the cost of the operation as well as post-op care in America and any equipment needed. Any extra money raised will cover intensive physio that Adam will need once back in the UK.

“The support we have had is amazing,” said Mrs Kutereba, “Our friends and family and the whole of Littleborough have been fantastic. I think it helps because Adam is a cheeky little chappy!”
