Computer failure blamed for late pay packets
Date published: 13 April 2012
Employees at Gordon Rigg Garden Centre were concerned when their pay packets failed to materialise yesterday (Thursday 12 April).
An employee who does not want to be named said: "It would be interesting to find out why Gordon Rigg failed to pay workers on Thursday 12 April. This necessitated staff who were off duty being told to come back the next day and those whose were on a day off on Friday having to make their way into work today to collect their wages.
"No compensation has been offered to cover the additional expenses and all staff are angry as they only get minimum wage and need to pay bills, etc."
A Gordon Rigg company spokesperson said: "It was a computer system failure and most staff were paid by 5.30pm yesterday."
