Foster carers honoured for true dedication

Date published: 06 April 2012

Local foster carers were honoured for their continuous work and dedication at a special awards ceremony.

The annual foster carers’ awards and dinner dance event, held by Rochdale Borough Council’s fostering service, recognises and celebrates the achievements of all foster carers across the borough.

This year’s ceremony took place at Rochdale Town Hall and was attended by around 90 of the borough’s foster carers celebrating with their families.

Awards were presented by Steve Garner, Service Director for Targeted Services at Rochdale Borough Council to foster carers who’ve given between 5 and 35 years of service.

A special award, The Alan Russell Award, for outstanding contribution to fostering in the borough was presented to Linda Powell, who has offered foster placements to some of the borough’s most vulnerable children over a 34 year fostering career. Linda and her family have always offered a great deal of care and support to the children in her care and many of the children still come back to her for advice many years later.

Steve Garner said “Our foster carers do a fantastic job all year round and deserve recognition for all their hard work, enthusiasm and dedication.

“They look after children and young people at a time when they need it most and provide stability, care and support.”
