Water bosses: No restrictions on use

Date published: 04 April 2012

United Utilities is reassuring householders and businesses that there are no restrictions on water use in the North West.

Tomorrow (Thursday 5 April) a hosepipe ban comes into force in south and eastern counties of the UK, but the North West region is not affected.

Reservoir levels are at nearly 90 per cent overall across the region, which is slightly lower than expected for the time of year.

Richard Blackwell, United Utilities water supply and demand manager, explained: "Although there is no hosepipe ban here in the North West, we are keeping a close eye on things and it still makes sense to use water wisely, to make the most of our precious water resources.

"We can't predict how dry or wet the summer will be, but we will monitor the situation closely, and keep our customers updated.

"The less water we all use from the tap, the more we can leave in the region's rivers for the fish and wildlife that also depend on it."

There are lots of simple ways to save water in the home and garden, from fitting a save-a-flush device or a water butt, to running washing machines and dishwashers with a full load.
