Star student takes to stage in talent show

Rochdale resident and talented student, Zaynab Salim, 17, from Abbey College Manchester, took to the stage last week to dazzle audiences with a powerful performance in the college’s annual charity Talent Show, in aid of Francis House Children’s Hospice.

Miss Salim, who lives in Bamford, demonstrated her impressive acting talents with a dramatic piece from A Streetcar Named Desire, which entertained audiences at The Unitarian Chapel, Manchester City Centre, on 22 March.

Miss Salim, who is currently studying for her A-levels in French, English Language and History, took time out to showcase her talents and perform alongside a selection of other students from the college.

From fashion designers to singers, and dancers to musicians, the Abbey College Talent Show saw students shine as they celebrated the arts, their talents and a collection of cosmopolitan cultures, to raise money for Francis House Children’s Hospice, the college’s local charity of the year.

And the students were not the only ones to take to the stage, with a solo singing performance from College Principal, Liz Elam, and a selection of college staff donning colourful collections in their very own fashion show.

Liz Elam, Principal at Abbey College Manchester said: “This is the third year that we have held a celebration of our students’ amazing artistic talents, and as always the standard has been extremely high. Zaynab’s performance was fantastic and it is wonderful to appreciate her artistic talents outside of the classroom.
“We are delighted to be able to celebrate the cosmopolitan nature of our college with such an impressive display. The show was a great success and we hope our audience was thoroughly entertained!”

The Abbey College Talent Show raised over £400 for Francis House Children’s Hospice in Didsbury, which provides essential support for families and their children, who have been diagnosed as having life threatening or life limiting conditions.
