A special awards evening celebrating the achievements of young people from across the borough has taken place at Rochdale Town Hall

The Mayor’s Youth Awards highlighted the outstanding work of 75 young people, aged 13 - 24 years old, who were nominated by Rochdale Borough Council’s Youth Service and other partner organisations.

Awards were presented to individuals and groups for categories including personal achievement, contribution to the community and sporting achievements.

A special award, ‘Young Person of the Year,’ was presented to Kristina Foster, 19.

Miss Foster received this award for her dedication in setting up a group at her local college and for her supportive manner with others. She always attends her local youth centre, is currently learning sign language and is very hard working and ambitious.

Ed Kelly, Principal Officer at Rochdale Borough Council’s Youth Service who presented awards on the evening said: “Well done to all the young people for their outstanding work and thank you to all who have supported them to achieve. This is the second year we’ve held this awards event and it is a great opportunity to recognise the fantastic work happening by the borough’s young stars.”

The event was planned and organised by a group of dedicated young people. They also presented funds raised from events in their areas for the Mayor’s chosen charities; Middleton Heartline, Springhill Hospice, the MaD Theatre Co and Demesne Digital Mammography Fund.

The Mayor, Alan Godson said: “Thanks to all the young people who organised these events and for their sterling fundraising efforts. Congratulations to all award winners on the night – keep up the good work.”
