Going the extra mile for Sport Relief

Date published: 25 March 2012

Over one hundred keen fundraisers descended on Broadfield Park, Rochdale, on Sunday afternoon for the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile.

Runners could choose their own distance from 1, 3 or 6 miles – and could complete it in any way they wanted.

Participants included children, parents and grandparents – and some even brought their dogs.

The six mile course started at 1.30pm and 11 people took part, then at 2.00pm the one mile and the three mile courses started. A total of 61 people took part in the one mile and a further 29 people took part in the three mile course.

Each of the participants received a medal at the end.

Rochdale’s Sport Relief Mile event was completely sold out and all the money raised will go towards helping people living unimaginably tough lives all across the world.

Event organiser Elaine Stott from Link4Life said: “We were really impressed when it sold out with two weeks to go so we have been really excited. The weather is great and it is a proper family day with proper family entertainment.”

Other fun activities at the event included sports sessions courtesy of Link4Life, a mountain bike assault course and football sessions courtesy of Rochdale AFC and their mascot, Desmond the Dragon.
