We strive to instil within the children a sense of belonging within a range of communities and for them to play an active role as members of society.

Mass, Thursday 29 March:
A Mass will be held in the school hall, 9am on Thursday 29 March. All parents and carers are welcome to join us.

Young Writers creative writing competition:
Schools from all over the UK and overseas were invited to enter their Key Stage 1 pupils in a Young Writers’ My First Story creative writing competition.

The selected writers’ from these schools will have their work published in a special collection of stories/poems. The winning entries from St. John’s will also be published in the magazine, My First Story – Lancashire, in June.

The pupils from St. John’s who were successful are:

Class 1:
Shukria, Joyce, Paris, Mohammed, Sienna Paris and Victoria.

Class 2:
Grace, Yasir, Caleb, Terrence, Alvin, Sana, Emedi, Aleena, Amour, Ebony, Patryk, Maisha, Ismaeel, Ariana, Minatullah and Yusuf.

Congratulations to our budding writers.

Water Awareness:
As part of their work on environmental matters, Class 3 presented a water themed assembly to the school on Tuesday stressing the importance of clean water.

Mother’s Day Poem:
Prize winners of the Mother’s Day Poem were invited to Deeplish Community Centre on Sunday afternoon to receive their prizes.

Our winners were Natalia from class 3, Hajira from class 4 and
Chantelle from class 6.

Congratulations to the winners and well done to all the other entrants, there were many touching poems written.

Sports:
We have a busy week in sports next week starting on Monday with Basketball and Netball.

Netball will take place at St. John’s with visiting teams from Beech House and Broadfield schools. Our Basketball team will be taking part in the league games at Oulder Hill.

Tuesday will see St John’s going to the City Stadium, Eastlands, to take part in the Borough Tag Rugby Mini Games.

Wednesday we will be taking ten of our pupils to perform in a dance competition at Middleton Arena.

Rice Day:
Thank you to all children and members of staff who took part in the Rice Meal on Friday 9 March. Together we raised £110.20 for CAFOD to help provide emergency food and clean water for poor people all over the world.

Satisfaction Survey:
Thank you to all parents who took their time to complete and return the survey during 8 – 16 March. A report on the findings will be sent home with children soon.

Golden book awards:
The Golden Book awards are for children have tried their best in all areas with politeness and respect.

Class 2: Terrence and Ebony
Class 3: Aliyah and Teegan
Class 4: Hashim and Bushra
Class 5: Mahira and Nanawa
Class 6: James and Chantelle 

Certificate Awards:
Awards for last week went to Class Reception/1 for highest attendance and
Class 5 for good behaviour in and around the school.
