Landlord fined
Date published: 20 March 2012
Landlord, Inn City Limited, has been fined for failing to comply with HMO (houses with multiple occupants) regulations.
Inn City Limited profited from the property at 5 St Dominic’s Way, Alkrington, Middleton despite not holding a licence from the council to allow it to rent to multiple occupants.
The prosecution was brought following a visit by Rochdale Borough Council officers who discovered the house was occupied by five unrelated people.
Landlords are required to licence such properties to ensure they are properly managed, not overcrowded and safe to occupy.
Inn City Limited was fined £1,000 and ordered to pay £321 costs plus a victim surcharge of £15 each.
The case was brought by Rochdale Borough Council’s Legal and Democratic Services Team.
