Ofsted Inspection –All parents/carers will have now received a copy of our full inspection. As indicated last week to be ‘Outstanding’ in all four judgment areas this is something everybody connected with Redwood School is extremely proud of. As a school community we should celebrate this achievement and then look to plan ahead to make us even better. A copy can also be found on our website. BBC School Report – Redwood makes the News - There has been a great deal of information on the BBC over the past few weeks regarding schools taking a key role in school reporters activities. As you would expect Redwood is involved in this greatly. There are many youngsters across the country reporting on the activities of 15 March our news is available on our website! Greater Manchester Winter Games – 27 March - Final details are being organized for our involvement in the many sports which are taking place across the sporting venues on March 27th. It will be a fantastic experience to take part in the opening ceremony at Sports City and then compete in the various activities. Congratulations - To those youngsters who took part in the Dance Project at the Gracie Fields Theatre and were great ambassadors to the school.

Easter holiday club ( April 2– 5 and 10 – 13 ) Details of the activity programme which will take place during the Easter holidays are being finalized and parents will be notified over the arrangements as soon as possible by David Butterworth.

Key stage 4 news -at MANTRA the motor mechanics group have had cars up on the ramp and they have been changing and checking brake pads. They worked together to make sure the cars were in full working order. Students from KS3, 4 and 5 have been involved in a spiral dance project with students from Oulderhill. The students worked really well together and performed successfully at Gracie Fields theatre. SEB worked hard on their Mothers Day cards. On the 22nd March SEB are inviting current parents into school for a coffee morning, letters will be sent out to them very soon. The pupils have been working hard on their accreditation work this week, it’s all work work work in Key Stage 4. On Thursday 15th March pupils from Redwood Secondary School joined up with around 1000 schools across the UK making the news. Pupils are taking part in BBC News School Report, a BBC project to engage 11-16-year-olds in the news. Over the past few months the students in Year 7 – 13 have been working hard, training to be top journalists, carrying out interviews and producing reports. Mr Alcock Head of English KS4 stated ‘The students have worked really hard and come up with some great stories. They are broadcasting across the internet through a dedicated webpage as well as through Redwood Radio’.

Key Stage 3 News—Year 7 Red visited the Trafford centre looking at the book stores in relation to World Book Day. In Geography Year 8/9 Yellow experienced Sumo wrestlers as part of Japanese Culture. The Parent signalong group joined our assembly this week and signed the song ‘Our School’ Year 8/9 Orange visited Middleton Bus Station. We have had fun on the Bikeability Bikes this week—Bikeability is a selection of adapted bikes suittable for all abilities. Pupils have been learning how to use the bikes and learn new skills. We have been rehearsing in the Performing Arts room for the Easter Showcase, ready to perform in front of an audience. More details of how to get tickets will be sent home soon! We had a visit from Newlands and Springside students this week in preparation for September.

6th form news - To celebrate our fantastic Ofsted report, students were treated to a meal out at the Red Hot World Buffet in Manchester. Split into 2 groups, students travelled with staff on the train, spent the morning browsing round shops, having a free Latte at Starbucks and then tucking in to a fantastic buffet of Thai, Indian, Japanese, Italian, Mexican, Mediterranean and Chinese cuisine. Everyone had a great day and behaved incredibly well. Students have also had lots of fun shopping at Cutgate shopping centre, looking at animals at The Social Lounge and taking part in fun activities like rebound therapy, hydro and relaxation. The Travel and Tourism group visited The Royal Toby Hotel in Castleton as part of their research into different types of accommodation available. One of the hotel receptionists showed the students around and answered questions. They learnt about the facilities and services the hotel provides and the cost of staying there.
