Police appeal to trace the last movements of a man from Heywood

Date published: 17 March 2012

Police are appealing to trace the last movements of a man whose body was found in Bolton following a night out with friends.

David Whittle, 33, was found on Tonge Moor Road shortly after 3.30am on Sunday 11 March 2012.

He was last seen at about 12.30am that morning, leaving the Sugar Bar, Silver Street, Bury.

Earlier that evening he went out in Heywood town centre and at around 9.45pm he, along with two friends, took a taxi to Bury.

They went to a number of bars and ended up in the 'Sugar Bar'. David left the bar telling his friends he was going home.

After his body was found, detectives carried out a number of inquiries into David’s death but there are no suspicious circumstances.

David was a white man, about 5'8" in height of medium build with short brown hair. He was wearing a brown leather jacket, a lavender coloured polo shirt and dark coloured denim jeans.

Family members have described David as a loving son.

A post-mortem examination ruled that the cause of death was unascertained, pending further tests.

Detective Inspector Andy Cunliffe said: “We are fully assisting the coroner in relation to David’s tragic death.

“While we do not believe that he was the victim of any criminal offence, we are really keen to speak to anyone who may have seen David so we can get a better idea of his final movements.

“David’s family are devastated and need more answers to help them understand this tragedy. We would urge anyone who can help us to call us as soon as possible.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 5740.
