Over 150 members and visitors attended a meeting of the Rochdale Antique Society last night (14 March) for an ‘Evening with Lars Tharp.’

Held at St Vincent’s Community Centre, Norden, the guests heard a talk from Mr Tharp, a ceramic expert, who has appeared on Antiques Roadshow for over 26 years.

Mr Tharp’s talk has been described as “amusing and informative.” He discussed many of the experts with whom he works on the Antiques Road Show, brought to life with slides and his abundant humour.

Mr Tharp was born in Copenhagen, Denmark in 1954. He is a naturalised British subject and was educated at Wyggeston Grammar School for boys in Leicester to 1972 and then at Gonville & Caius College Cambridge.

He worked as Director and Auctioneer at Sotheby’s Auctioneers, London, for 16 years from 1977 to 1993 and is now the William Hogarth Curator and a Director and ambassador for the Foundling Museum in London

Mr Tharp was introduced and thanked by Immediate Past Chairman Keith Mellor. After the meeting he talked with many members including committee members Barbara Tunstall and Felicity Guthrie
