Fire-fighters treated a 32-year-old Heywood man for the effects of smoke on Wednesday (14 March) following a fire at his home involving a quantity of food in a microwave.

On arrival at the first-floor flat address at Ashton Street, crews found that the fire was out but that the occupant was suffering from smoke inhalation.

Fire Service trauma technicians administered oxygen and the man was taken to Fairfield General Hospital by ambulance, where he was later discharged.
