MP joins parliamentary cycling campaign

Jim Dobbin MP is backing a parliamentary campaign for measures to make cycling safer.

The Heywood and Middleton MP is joining the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Cycling after constituents asked him to back calls to make cycling on roads safer.

The group campaigns in Parliament for policies to support cycling – such as investment in infrastructure such as signs, safer junctions and cycling lanes, to cycle training for children, for example.

Members of the group take part in debates, table questions and lobby government ministers and local councils to do more to promote cycling. The group also organises meetings with organisations involved in cycling in the UK.

Mr Dobbin said: “I’ve received emails and letters from a number of constituents asking me to back measures to make cycling safer so that more people can get on their bikes in and around Heywood and Middleton.

“They want to see more and safer routes for cycling, better training for drivers and cyclists and other measures to make cycling safer.

“It’s my job to listen to their concerns and represent them in the House of Commons which is why I’ve joined the group and will be pushing for these and other measures in Parliament.”
