Celebrate the Diamond Jubilee with a street party

Date published: 14 March 2012

There are only a few weeks left to get your application in to organise a street celebration to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

Rochdale Borough Council is waiving the usual fee for parties held on 4 or 5 June – but you need to let them know by Friday 27 April.

The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee will take place over an extended weekend in June to mark the 60th year of Her Majesty’s reign.

Last year many parties were held throughout the borough to mark the Royal Wedding, and this summer thousands of street parties are expected to be held nationally.

Organising small, private street parties is simple and generally does not involve activities that need a license, but you still need permission from the council.

There is no charge for residents for road closures, providing applications are submitted by the deadline.

Information on how to arrange your street party, and what you need to do, is available at www.rochdale.gov.uk/events

Preparations are already underway to celebrate the Jubilee locally. Four special beacons will be lit throughout the borough as part of nationwide celebrations. A community bonfire will also be organised by the council and on 2 June the Milnrow and District Carnival will be followed by a street party.
