Saint Cuthbert High School
This week’s theme was Lenten Alms and our Enterprise capability was INITIATIVE. This half-term’s focus for Year 7 is CREATIVITY & INNOVATION.
Congratulations to all our learners who took part in the Rochdale Music Festival: the Year7 and 8 choir achieved 'Honours’ for their "beautiful sense of phrase and perfect blend". Our three boy soloists received a special mention and extra applause from the audience. The St Cuthbert's Musical Ensemble followed with their 'Chicago' medley. Again they achieved an 'Honours' certification and came first in their category. In the adjudicator's report he stated that this was "youth music at the highest level" and a "festival highlight". Pupils will soon be competing in the 'Music for Youth' national competition and are already preparing for the Summer Concert.
PC Gurr presented an assembly to Year 7 pupils about E Safety with special emphasis on how to keep safe if accessing social network sites. We strongly urge all pupils to follow this advice. It has come to our attention that many pupils input false dates of birth which then allows them to access social network sites that are restricted to other age groups: this is obviously putting our pupils at risk. We have a secure filter system in school, which means we can closely monitor all internet activity and we ask parents to closely monitor their child’s use of the internet at home.
Attendance Challenge: this week’s winners are Miss Abbott and form 7.9 with a weekly attendance of 98.5%. “You have to be in to win” - well done to this week’s winner - Emily Murphy, form 7.10. Year 7 pupils have been very busy at break and lunchtimes organising various fundraising activities for their chosen Lenten charity which is Francis House. Homework club is open every day at 1.30 in L3 with Mrs Whitmore and Mrs Rushton.
The facilities in our Partnership Learning Centre are available for parents and for any Parish Groups who wish to produce resources for church or develop their own learning. Please speak to Mrs Moore for details (01706 647761).
