Alice Ingham RC Primary School
Date published: 07 March 2012
This week we have celebrated Alice Ingham’s birthday and presented the Rochdale Childer Award. Thank you to all our parents/carers, Governors and friends who came to share our celebration. We were especially pleased to welcome the Alice Ingham Sisters and of course ,the Mayor of Rochdale who presented the award.
We all remembered the great example that Alice Ingham was during her own lifetime 1830-1890, and continues to be for all of us who attend this great school named in her honour.
Our kitchen staff prepared a party lunch complete with Birthday cake for us all to enjoy.
There has been some fantastic learning observed this week at Alice Ingham School. Children have been extremely well behaved and ready for learning.
In Reception class have been reading the story of the Three Little Pigs, making houses and puppets. They have been writing speech bubbles for the characters.
Year 1 have been designing and making Sweet Houses for Hansel and Gretel. They have been creating tally charts and pictograms as well as looking at characters and settings for Fairytales.
Year 2 have been exploring how to make a circuit and finding out what life was like before electricity was invented.
Year 3 have been writing Adventure stories and leading the school in Fairtrade Fortnight. They presented a superb assembly on Monday and entertained our parents at the Coffee afternoon with their very own Fairtrade Song. All pupils were treated to something to share from the FAIRTRADE shop. Thank you to all our parents who supported this important event.
Year 4 have had a CAMPING Trip on the school field this week as part of their Explorers topic. They conducted science experiments and enjoyed a super outdoor lunch with baked potatoes and toasted marshmallows.
Year 5 have been junior Town Planners this week, creating their own towns with all the facilities they felt were really important to their community.
Year 6 have been creating AZTEC drum rhythms and finishing off their Aztec Masks.
They have been assessing their own writing and looking for ways to improve their standard. Several pupils have continued to have one to one tuition in their Maths lessons to help improve their skill and understanding.
Year 3 celebrated Holy Mass with Father Joe this week. Father Joe and all the visitors were very impressed with how well prepared the pupils were and how reverent everyone was throughout the celebration.
A BIG CONGRATULATIONS to all our children who took part in the Rochdale Festival over the last 2 weeks. They have been great ambassadors for our school and have performed exceedingly well. We are all very proud of their achievements. We wish good luck to our Talented Tinies and Violinists who are performing next week.
