Hospice Midnight Walk ‘with a twist’
Date published: 07 March 2012

Springhill Hospice Midnight Walk
For one year only Springhill Hospice’s Midnight Walk will be open to both men and women.
The walk, which takes place in July, is the biggest single fundraising event organised by the Hospice - so they are urging as many people as possible to take part.
Sarah Ford, Income Services Lead at Springhill Hospice, said: “This is one of the most exciting events of the year with up to 300 people taking part.
“Over the last few years the Midnight Walk has become bigger and bigger. So this year we are hoping to smash the entries and make it a fun filled night for all that are taking part.”
Organisers are hoping that this event, which is usually for women only, will raise enough money to at least cover one week’s running costs of the Hospice, which currently stand at around £52,000.
There is a choice of two lengths of walk, either six or 13 miles. The route, which starts at the Middleton Arena, takes walkers through Middleton, Rhodes, Bowlee, Hopwood, Heywood, (with a halfway stop at Heywood Civic Centre), Sudden, Castleton, Slattocks returning via Middleton Town Centre to the Arena.
Participants walking the shorter route finish at Heywood Civic Centre where a shuttle service returns them to Middleton Arena.
Entry fee for the event is just £12 and all participants will receive a unique Midnight Walk t-shirt, medal, post-walk refreshments and a Certificate of Achievement.
To assist with the operation of this event Springhill Hospice is also looking for men to get involved as stewards and volunteers – so if husbands, boyfriends or male relatives would like to help out, the organisers would be delighted to hear from you.
Anybody wishing to participate in the Midnight Walk on Saturday 14 July can collect a registration form from Springhill Hospice, Broad Lane, Rochdale OL16 4PZ, or call 01706 649920 and request one via email or to posted out.
