Next Monday is the start of our Bike It ‘The Big Pedal’ challenge for this year. Last year we managed to lead the schools in Rochdale with the number of pupils AND STAFF travelling to school on two wheels! The good news is that this year ‘scooting’ counts as well as cycling. We are hoping to organise another Big Pedal breakfast and have lots of activities associated with the activity. The challenge lasts for three weeks. To help some children on their way Year 4 and 5 are taking part in the NCA Bikeability Course that will run for 4 Mondays starting on Monday 5th. All you need to take part (and parents count as well as children) is a bike or scooter and to make sure the bike has a lock and that children wear a safety helmet. Please help us to make our mark again.

The Music Festival is well underway. Last week the dancers gained first place in their class and came away with a medal and an honours certificate for their dance based on the coming London Olympics. The woodwind have also taken part and next week it is the turn of the choir. If your child is in the choir we need to ensure that the signed release has been returned to school, we don’t want to have to leave any children behind! Parents are invited to come along and watch the choir perform on Tuesday morning in the Great Hall of the Town Hall. The choir children need to be in school for a 9:00 am start on Tuesday, late arrivals will miss the transport down to the Town Hall.

Last week our Athletics Team came third in the inter schools indoor athletics competition. We are very proud of them. Thanks to Ms McGuinness for her efficient training of the team. On Tuesday 6 members of the School Council took part in the Fairtrade Tea party at the Town Hall. Well done to Phoebe, Alicia and Fallon for their winning entry in the poster competition, they have donated their book token gift card to school to buy a Fairtrade book for the Library.

Well done to the children who were presented with the Achievement Award last Friday:
Reception: Daisy Watson
Year 1: Leah Dolan
Year 2: Isabelle Harrison
Year 3: Lucy Alletson
Year 4: Christian Maguire
Year 5: Katie Hancock
Year 6: Sam Round

Best attendance was Year 4 with 99 per cent.

Parents Evenings are taking place on Tuesday and Wednesday – but not Year 5. All parents should have either signed up on the boards in Year 1 or have returned the slips sent out in Years 3,4 and 6.

Finally, a HUGE thanks you to Jake’s mum for the toys she has donated to Year 1. The class are so excited and can’t wait to have fun. Thank you so much.
