Key Stage 4 news -Winter Olympics day; all the pupils and staff had a great time on the inflatable over at Oulderhill pool. The commando Joe assault course, Ice skating, curling and lots more exciting activities. Last week we had a PSD day; this involved lots of activities, including cooking, preparation for work, fitness activities, adaptable bikes, oral health, anti-bullying sessions and lots more: Sam said: “I found the PSD day very interesting, I took part in Anti- bullying project where we designed a tree for our anti-bullying display board, we also learnt how much sugar and fat was in certain food and drink and enjoyed a half hour ride on the bike around the street. My favourite part was drugs education it was interesting to learn how much tar was in a cigarette, it made me realise how bad smoking is for you and how much it can harm you. I really enjoyed my day and can’t wait for there to be another.” Fahad said: “The PSD day was really good. I really enjoyed learning which drugs are good for you and which are bad. The biggest shock of the day was how much fat and sugar are in a whole chocolate bar, I learnt not to eat a whole bar in one go! It was fun to go around all the classes and do lots of different things, I would like to do the drug education again and more life skills learning what is in our food.”

SSC had a trip to Springfield park at the beginning of this week, it’s a shame the weather wasn’t much better for them.

Key stage 3 news- we had great fun on Winter Olympics Day. Every class made a torch, the whole school gathered on the corridor downstairs to pass the torches to mark the ‘opening’ of the games. Many activities were available to take part in, the students enjoyed, ice-skating, inflatable obstacle course, bike riding, curling and lots of activities in each classroom. We had great fun in the pancake race with monies raised going to resources for the students. Year 7 made pancakes and filled them with ingredients like nutella, maple syrup and natural yoghurt!

6th form news -We have a really busy half term in front of us! We are aiming to have a tag rugby team for the over 16’s in the Greater Manchester Winter Games - so lots of practising to do. We have lots of planning for our Enterprise week which takes place on the week beginning 22nd March and finishes with a sale on Thursday 29th March. A theatre production called Gang Land are in on the 6th March to work with our performing arts group. 6th Form are also working on 2 films, one for our brochure and one about laws as part of a national competition for Parliament Week. As well as all this we are working hard on accreditation and some students are visiting the Skills North West Exhibition next week whilst others are going to a Fair Trade Coffee morning at Rochdale Town Hall. Phew! What a half term this will be and this all finishes with a choice of bowling or cinema on the last day of term. Class 5B are now learning about animals and how we handle and care for them. They had a visit from Nathan from Pets At Home. He brought along a rabbit, guinea pig and a bearded lizard. The group got to hold and pet them. The rabbit and guinea pig felt soft and the lizard was prickly. Dayle said “It was brilliant, really good to get to touch them, the rabbit tickled me”.
