Catering students cook up some Fairtrade culinary delights
Date published: 25 February 2012
In honour of Fairtrade Fortnight, catering students at Hopwood Hall College will be cooking Fairtrade recipes for the public.
Each recipe has been provided by local school children; Rochdale Borough Council asked all primary schools to submit Fairtrade recipes to be judged by Hopwood Hall College’s catering students; in all, 63 were submitted and the students picked seven winning recipes, amidst tough competition.
The winning recipes are:
- Chocolate and Banana Cake by Zahrah Rahman, age 11, Shawclough Community Primary School
- Festive and Fruity Fairtrade Mincemeat by students from All Souls’ C.E. Primary School
- Crumbly Banana Squares by Lucy Farrell, Year 5, Shawclough Community Primary School
- Banana Cake by Students from St. James’ C.E. Primary School, Wardle
- Chocolate Delight by Morgan Taylor, age 10, Lowerplace Primary School
- Chocolate Biscuit Bars by Alice Ingham, RC Primary School
- FAB Chocolate cake by Anika Akhtarage, age 11, Shawclough Community Primary School
These recipes are now going to be cooked on two different days at the College and served in their public Restaurant ‘The Cottons’ during Fairtrade Fortnight, which runs from 27 February to11 March.
