Recognition for Rochdale at Chief Constable’s award ceremony

Police officers and staff from Greater Manchester Police’s Rochdale Division were amongst those recognised at the Chief Constable’s Excellence Awards on Friday (17 February).
The prestigious ceremony rook place at the Manchester Town Hall and over 200 officers and staff gathered to celebrate.
Among the recipients was the Community Cohesion Team in Rochdale who won the Karen Mulligan Award for Diversity in Action.
Constable Robert Smith, from the Rochdale Division, was highly commended in the Chief Constable’s Award for Individual Achievement category.
PCSO Andrew Flynn, from the Rochdale Division, was highly commended in the Chief Constable’s Award for Outstanding Communication category.
And, Rochdale Division’s Operation Ulysses was highly commended in the Chief Constable’s Award for Outstanding Team Performance category.
The Chief Constable’s Excellence Awards are sponsored by local and national organisations to celebrate excellence, reward innovation and recognise individual contributions to public service.
Other recipients included Constable’s Tony Sheridan and Karl Jackson, from the Tameside Divison, who won brave officers of the year after confronting an aggressive group of males, one of whom was armed with a knife. The officers were off duty at the time and had no protective equipment or back up.
Constable Andrew Wright, from the Wigan Division, won the award for Citizen Focus for going above and beyond to create the ‘Nowt2Do’ project.
PCSO Mark Detheridge, from the Oldham Division, won the award for Individual Achievement for showing commitment, enthusiasm, drive and determination to improve the quality of life for the residents in Oldham.
Chief Constable Peter Fahy, said: “I am hugely proud to be the Chief Constable of Greater Manchester Police because of officers and staff like these who put their heart and soul into what they do and are there to support members of the public at the most difficult times of their lives.
”The officers and staff nominated for awards should be extremely proud of themselves for their continual efforts and first-class service they provide to not only members of the public, but also to their colleagues. They are all winners and I congratulate them on their achievements.”
