A fundraising campaign to send a nine-year-old boy to America for life-changing treatment has raised over £9,000 since its launch last month.
Adam Kutereba, from Littleborough, suffers from Tetraplegic Cerebral Palsy.
His parents, Rachel, 33 and Rick, 34, launched the ‘Adam Kutereba SDR Fund’ last month and need to raise £60,000 to send their son to St Louis Children’s Hospital in Missouri, America, for an operation called Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy - which could help him walk.
Since the launch family, friends and kind-hearted strangers have been rallying round to support the family in their fundraising efforts and at the last count £9,104 has been raised.
Rachel said: “It is going really well. Everything is going steady now and we have got quite a few events coming up.
“The support we have had from people is absolutely amazing.
“The whole of Littleborough have been brilliant.
“The support is massive and everyone is trying to help.
“We are trying to get different people involved and really raise awareness of what we are trying to do.
“The donations have been lovely. We have been getting donations from people I went to school with, who I haven’t seen since I left. It is really nice that people are recognising what we are doing.”
Now that the campaign is starting to gather pace Rachel, Rick and Adam's sister, Shannon, 11, are hopeful that they will reach their target.
Rachel added: “We held a bag pack at Tesco that raised £1,600 and we have got another one planned for Asda.”
Upcoming events include a variety show at Littleborough Cricket Club this Friday (17 February), an Evening of Clairvoyance with David J Golden at Littleborough CC and a Waxathon at the Dyers Arms.
After the waxathon Adam’s dad Rick and friends will set off on a sponsored walk to Blackpool.
