A former Councillor has left the Liberal Democrat group and joined the Conservatives.
Christine Akram, who used to represent the Smallbridge and Firgrove ward, has been a member of the Lib Dems all of her life but says that she has now ‘had enough’ of the group.
Mrs Akram has joined the Conservatives and hopes to one day be a councillor again.
She said: “I have been a member of the Lib Dems since I was 18, I am 60 now and this is the first time I have thrown my membership back at them.
“It has got to the point where I have had enough of them.”
Mrs Akram said she doesn’t like what is happening with the party locally.
She added: “I agree with what the Conservatives are doing and Ashley is a very good leader.”
Conservative group Leader, Councillor Ashley Dearnley, said: “Christine has been a hard working councillor for many years and she has always put the interests of the residents of her ward first.
“Our party is a party for everyone and I am delighted she feels comfortable with us.”
