Members of Rochdale Golf Club have raised £8,275 for the Manchester Royal Infirmary Charity.
As part of her captaincy year at Rochdale Golf Club, Elizabeth Greer decided to raise money for Leukaemia Research, following treatment her husband Ken received at Manchester Royal Infirmary.
In 2001, Ken lost his spleen due to cancer, in 2003, during one of his regular checkups a lump was discovered and he was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Ken was given a course of chemotherapy and his treatment was scheduled around his daughter’s wedding, so that he could walk her up the aisle and give her away. After this, he went back to the MRI to have a stem cell transplant.
A number of events were held throughout the year including a Lady Captain’s Charity Day, a flower demonstration, a whisky tasting and a fashion show, all helping to contribute to the amount raised for the Leukaemia Research fund at the hospital.
Mrs Greer said: “I am absolutely delighted to have raised such a fantastic amount but I couldn’t have done it without the support of Rochdale Golf Club and family and friends so I would just like to thank everyone who helped me.
“Leukaemia research at the Manchester Royal Infirmary is something very close to my heart so being able to donate over £8,000 is truly wonderful.”
Manchester Royal Infirmary Hospital Charity is raising money to ensure continued excellence in treatment, care and research at the hospital – improving the lives of thousands of patients each year across the North West and beyond.
The support of the charity means that the hospital can provide additional resources that make life easier for patients and their families who use the hospital.
The charity has three main areas of work: to support research projects to improve our understanding of illnesses, to help to create an environment that’s more friendly, and to provide state-of-the-art equipment for diagnosis and treatment.
