Keeping it in the family...

Date published: 10 February 2012

Three generations of the same family – including a 74-year-old grandmother – have taken up diving.

The Diggle family from Heywood got the diving bug when Tony, 51, and son Tom, 14, had a go at diving whilst on holiday in Egypt.

On their return they decided to join BSAC dive club, Bury Sub Aqua 601 to enable them to get properly qualified.

The pair, who are undertaking their Ocean Diver Training, were joined in the pool by Tony’s mum Doreen.

Doreen said: “I’ve always wanted to have a go at scuba diving and when Tony and Tom said they were joining a dive club I took the opportunity of having a try dive”.

“I don’t think I will do the full training like my son and grandson, but I’ve now been able to fulfil a long held dream of finding out what being able to swim and breathe underwater is all about and I loved every minute.”

Tony and Tom want to continue with their training as much as possible and are looking forward to doing some UK diving, especially around the Scottish coast.
