Call for party people
Date published: 07 February 2012
Residents across the borough can now apply to organise a street celebration to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
Fees are being waived for parties held on 4 or 5 June – but you need to let the council know by Friday 27 April.
The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee will take place over an extended weekend in June to mark the 60th year of Her Majesty’s reign.
Last year many parties were held throughout the borough to mark the Royal Wedding, and this summer thousands of street parties are expected to be held nationally.
Organising small, private street parties is simple and generally does not involve activities that need a licence, but you still need permission from the council.
There is no charge for residents for road closures, providing applications are submitted by the deadline.
Information on how to arrange your street party, and what you need to do, is available at www.rochdale.gov.uk/events
Preparations are already underway to celebrate the Jubilee locally. Four special beacons will be lit throughout the borough as part of a nationwide celebration, following on from 2002 when over 1,800 were lit UK wide to mark the Queen’s Golden Jubilee.
A community bonfire will also be organised by the council and on 2 June the Milnrow and District Carnival will be followed by a street party.
