Redwood School
School Pupil Photographs—Just after the recent school photo shoot, we were informed that the company who had the contract had gone into liquidation. We have been assured that the photos which had been taken have been deleted. In the short term we do not have any plans to seek another company, however it is something we will investigate in the summer term.
Pupil Survey—We shall be seeking the views of our pupils between this week and next, on a series of issues in school. The survey will be completed in tutorials with the support of staff, some in a role of advocates for the youngsters.
We held a Winter Olympics Games day – the Sports Development Team in school organized a great day for all pupils and staff which included : Opening Ceremony, Snow Machine, Snow Globe, Sound beam bowling, Sensory Skittles, Mobile Ice Rink, Winter Assault Course, Swimming Pool obstackle course, Curling, Flags, Olympic torch.
February Half Term Clubs 13 – 17th - An exciting programme of activities and events are being organized for those young people who are attending the half term holiday club ! More details available from David Butterworth at school.
Food Council -A group of students in key stage 4 recently met with the school cook to discuss their views on the school meals and some possible alterations to the programme. The feedback was very positive and further meetings will be held in the next few months.
Guide to Mobile Web Safety - We are currently looking to provide pupils with suitable and age appropriate guidance to help keep youngsters safe on their mobile phones. More details will be circulated in the next few weeks
KS4 news SEB-got stuck into Australia day last week, they designed and made aboriginal style wobble boards as part of our Australia Day celebrations. They have also been working on their chosen country for the Olympics, looking at Spanish fans and designing their own using different textured materials. The MANTRA group looked at the electric circuits that are found in motor vehicles and how they work. 4L have been working hard on ICT practice tests, getting ready for the real thing. Good luck everyone. 4B and 4U have been playing mushrooms and practicing their basketball skills in P.E this week. Key Stage 3 News— This week has seen a creative side to the department with students making food and items for their projects and lesson topics. Year 8 / 9 Green made vegetable soup in food technology. Lilac group made Masquerade masks for Romeo and Juliet. 8/9 Yellow designed Japanese Manga Pictures. 8/9 Purple have been acting out Macbeth in English. 8/9 Orange made Sangria in Spanish with 8/9 Blue. 7 Green finished their power point presentation about the School. They have recorded their voices for the presentation on their favourite lessons. We hope to see the presentation in assembly. Jordan M, Sheraz and Maryam all went horseriding. Students of the week: India, William, Callam C.
6th form news leading healthy lifestyles in school- Every Thursday a group of students go to Oulder Hill Pool to have a swimming session, students work to develop their swimming skills and stamina. They do a range of activities from life saving to gaining confidence in the water. The students have fun and become fitter in the sessions. To celebrate the 2012 Olympics, the wheelchair dance group decided to choose some music from 5 different countries and learn different dances to go with the music. So far the group have looked at America and India for inspiration, last week the group listened to Bhangra music from India and had a great time trying out some Bhangra moves. As part of Sports Options, Dave the sports co-ordinator takes a group of 6th Formers to Heywood Sports Centre. The group takes part in a variety of sporting activities which so far have included: basketball, football, hockey, cricket, rounder's, fitness challenges and team games. During the students social time at break and after lunch, a range of activities are on offer to help students keep active, occupied and of course to have fun. Some of the most popular options are snooker, table tennis, football, bike riding in the Courtyard and playing on the Nintendo Wii sports and Dance3. Lunchtime football takes place on our all weather pitch where the students enjoy penalty shootout and play 5 a side games which teaches them discipline and teamwork as well as helping them burn off some energy.
