The week started with a whole school assembly on ‘LIGHT’ as we approach the feast of Candlemas on Thursday when we celebrate the Presentation in the Temple and the blessing of candles in church.
It is so fitting that this week, on Thursday we received the Olympic Prayer Torch to our school as part of its journey around the diocese of Salford.
St Mary’s children presented a wonderful assembly about Haiti and stayed for some refreshments afterwards. It was great to see some of our parents there to support the event.
On Friday morning we sent our own School Ambassadors off to St Patrick’s school with the Olympic Torch. We walked along Halifax Road and certainly caught the attention of the passers by. We were very warmly welcomed and presented our assembly on Slovenia.
Reception Class have continued to practise their ch, sh, and th sounds and have had a lot of fun making and flying paper aeroplanes as part of their transport topic.
Year 1 have been listening to and re telling magical stories and writing instructions for making magical putty.
Year 2 have been planning and carrying out experiments about freezing liquids.They have also been practising their mental maths strategies subtracting 10 from a number.
Year 3 have been painting in the style of Floris van Dyce as part of their food topic. Ask your child what their pictures are like.
Year 4 have been learning about telling the Time and writing Newspaper articles.
Year 5 have begun their work on Mytha and Legends and already started to create their own Fantastical Beast. Everyone is being really imaginative.
Year 6 have been turning their newspaper reports into TV news broadcasts. Some pupils are showing signs of a potential career.
This week Year 6 celebrated Holy Mass with Father Joe. Afterwards he was very impressed with their interest in their work and improving standards. Well done Year 6!
Golden Book assembly was led this week by Year 4 when they told us about UNICEF’s Day for Change.
Congratulations to all our children who will be presented at Holy Mass on Saturday at Sacred Heart Church and on Sunday at St Patrick’s church.
