Date published: 03 February 2012

A Rochdale-based actor and filmmaker’s second feature film will make its TV debut this Valentine’s Day.

Zafar Iqbal’s film ‘My Big Fat Love Story’ was filmed in and around Rochdale and aims to show a ‘more realistic’ portrait of Muslims and Rochdale, explores the complexities of relationships and challenges a conventional perception of love

Mr Iqbal said: “My Big Fat Love Story is a simple poetic movie based on the conflict of a modern and traditional couple with a touch of Bollywood. It will make you laugh, cry, dance and celebrate love as never before.

“Other than My Big Fat Love Story, I am unaware of any other multi-language film using English, Urdu, Punjabi and Kashmiri.

“The movie was shot in Rochdale, Heywood, Burnley, Littleborough, Calderdale, Manchester, Haslingdon and Pendle.”

The movie cost £10,000 and was filmed over an eight month period.

Mr Iqbal added: “The team enjoyed giving autographs to the general public who enjoyed watching the filming of songs and dances.

“The movie had regular but positive interruptions at most of the shooting locations due to crowd build-ups. The whole team loved planning and delivering the movie and are very grateful to everybody for their wonderful support.”

The film is Mr Iqbal’s second feature film, his first, Banana Boys, was released in 2007.

The film will be aired on Tuesday 14 February at 6.00pm on Sky Channel 802 (DM Digital TV).
