Oulder Hill Community School
A reminder that school closes for the half-term holiday at 2.50pm on Friday 10 February and reopens at the usual time of 8.25 on Monday 20 February. Parents and carers of Year 9 students please note that parents’ evening for your child takes place on 23 February and your child will make appointments for you to see their teacher nearer the time.
Our Year 9 and Year 11 boys’ basketball teams both qualified as Rochdale champions to play in the County finals at the Ameachi Centre in Manchester. Both teams put up excellent performances against the best schools in Greater Manchester. The Year 9 team finished 7th whilst the Year11 team finished 5th. We are sure you will agree that our boys did really well, given that many of the teams they competed against were fielding national league players. Our Year 10 team also played last week, away at Cannon Slade in Bolton – we were victorious by 35 points to 27. Victory in their next game will give them a chance to qualify for the next round of the English Schools Championship, so we wish them luck.
As many readers will know, we run the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme at both Bronze and Silver levels. Last weekend we took the bronze group out to prepare for their expedition; they spent one half of the day putting up tents and learning to cook expedition food on a Trangia gas stove. The second half of the day was spent hiking on the hills near Scout Moor, navigating their way around the 8 kilometer route. The students performed exceptionally well, especially considering the extreme cold temperatures and very icy conditions, so well done to all involved.
Well done to our Year 9 students who represented the school last Friday evening at the Rochdale Schools’ 5-a-side competition. Although they did not qualify for the next stage they did play very well and represented Oulder Hill with distinction. The boys were Sam Lomax, Daniel Rea, Dennon Ashcroft, Callum Lynch, Tom Smeeton, Adam Deaville, Nathan Colclough and Peter Dalton.
