Parental Survey Results -As you know last week we published the parental survey results and each of the statements was answered with 93% - 99 % of parents indicating they ‘strongly agree’ or ‘agree’ to the statements. Should you have any points you wish to raise regarding further improvements in school, please contact myself or the deputies. Your views and input are vital to us.
2012 Winter Olympics Day at Redwood - We will be organizing a whole school inclusive Winter Olympics Games day on Friday 10th February – the Sports Development Team in school are in the process of organizing a tremendous day for all pupils and staff which will include : Opening Ceremony, Snow Machine, Snow Globe, Sound beam bowling, Sensory Skittles, Mobile Ice Rink, Winter Assault Course, Swimming Pool obstacle course, Curling, Flags, Olympic torch and medals for those who take part, We would also like all our young people to wear suitable Winter Olympic themed clothes for the day.
February Half Term Clubs 13th – 17th - David Butterworth, Sports Development Programme Co-ordinator, is currently putting the final details together for the organization of the half term clubs. Parents / Carers will receive details in the near future.
Dance Project with Oulder Hill -Well done to those young people who have started the dance project planning this week with pupils from Oulder Hill which will result in a performance at the Gracie Fields Theatre in March. They are Paige, Callum, Maryam, Tonya, Micha, Sandra, Rebecca, Maria and Sarah !
Rebound Therapy -It is really fantastic to see so many of our youngsters accessing the rebound therapy sessions supported by trained staff. The students are finding the activities great fun and at the same time developing their confidence. Well done to all involved.
Key stage 4 news – SEB had a little visitor. Mrs. Whitehead brought in one of her twins for the two classes to bath as part of PSD and Transition Challenge. The students loved having Theo around in class and this week his sister Felicity has come in for the same experience. They have also been out on a trip to China Town to look round at the colourful lights and decorations to celebrate the Chinese New Year. The pupils are looking at different countries, starting with Spain. This week they are concentrating on Spanish music, one of our college students can play the guitar so they had a professional playing for them.
We have been working on the Redwood radio station, we have looked at different things that we can put into the show to make it more interesting, check out http://www.key2radio.com/school/redwood to see what you think. 4B have been doing some crazy art work involving the pupils wearing funky hats. They produced some amazing photo frames to put their art work into. 4U have started Lego animation in ICT, Mr Barnes said that Habib was working especially well on this area.

Don’t forget there are still places available at the youth clubs-Tues 6-8pm under 16’s, Wed 5.30-7.30pm under 16’s, Thurs 6-8pm over 16’s and Saturday 10-12pm open to all. £2 per session – come and cook, dance, play sport, chill out, socialise etc.
Key Stage 3 News— We have been celebrating Chinese New Year with lots of activities including shopping at the Chinese Supermarket, making a variety of Chinese Food, stir fry, noodles, soup, fortune cookies as well as trying to use chop sticks. Students have been creative with art work too, by writing their names in Chinese and, making Chinese Lanterns. They looked at their Zodiac animal signs, the New Year tradition of exchanging money envelopes and made a dragon!! In assembly students paraded to music from drums and tambourines and watched a Tai Chi demonstration from Mr Hall. In English 8/9 Red tasted poison—’lemon juice’ as part of their Romeo and Juliet topic! 7 Green as part of Art took pictures of their favourite parts of the school in preparation to make a powerpoint presentation ‘ What’s in the Redwood Building.’
6th Form are very proud to be able to cater meals for all dietary needs, from gluten free, halal, taking into account allergies and liquidise where appropriate. Students work on a weekly basis with Carol, our catering manager, to prepare the finest and tastiest meals using only the freshest and healthiest ingredients. Carol said “This week Chantelle has been supporting me to prepare 6th form lunches by preparing salads, making desserts and serving lunches. She has been a great help and has worked really hard.”
Leavers Transition Group, have been working on Healthy Living. Craig, Keith, Hannah, Danielle and Ellis have so far worked on designing posters on how to lead a healthy life. They have cooked homemade scones using apples instead of sugar and made fresh fruit salads.
