Metrolink
A Rochdale councillor has voiced concerns over rate relief being offered to traders affected by Metrolink works.
As reported on Rochdale Online, businesses along Drake Street, Oldham Road and Maclure Road, who have been disrupted by the Metrolink works, are being offered rate relief by the council.
It is thought up to 56 business on those roads may be eligible. But Councillor Shah Wazir has pointed out that businesses on other roads, particularly, he says on Tweedale Street, are also being affected.
Councillor Wazir said: “The Metrolink work is unavoidable and rate relief for traders is wonderful news, but it isn’t just limited to Drake Street and Maclure Road, businesses on Tweedale Street are suffering.
“I think Tweedale Street is a good candidate to be included in the plan and it deserves attention.”
In response, Deputy Council Leader, Peter Williams said he will look into the possibilities of helping businesses in other areas and the implications – he said the implication being, “where do we actually stop?”
