Council backing to Jubilee street parties
Date published: 26 January 2012
The Council has given its backing to street parties in the borough for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
Celebrations to mark 60 years of the Queen’s reign will centre around an extended weekend on 2, 3, 4 and 5 June this year.
The Council will assist in any street parties by funding the road closures.
The Council offered the same assistance for last year’s Royal Wedding celebrations, which saw a number of street parties take place across the borough.
Confirming the move, the Leader of Rochdale Council, Councillor Colin Lambert, said: “We will look to do what we did last year which is fund street closures, road closures for street parties. That I think is the fair way forward.”
