Thank you to all who attended Year 9 Options Evening on Thursday 26 January to support your child in making their choices for Key Stage 4. A reminder that the latest date for the return of options forms is Monday 27 February.
Now some news about a visiting author. Last Monday, we were delighted to welcome children’s author, Tom Palmer, into school to promote reading for pleasure with Year 7 boys. Tom is a critically acclaimed author who works regularly for the Reading Agency, the National Literacy Trust, Booktrust and the National Council. His fiction focuses on football and rugby and he uses it to inspire football-crazy kids to read more regularly. Tom has been working with schools for over ten years and specializes in motivating boys to read. His popular “Football Reading” game – half football reading quiz, half penalty shoot-out – makes reading fun and relevant to all pupils. A local bookseller sold Tom’s books on the day so pupils could get their copy signed. Matt Lynch, who is Head of English at Oulder Hill, said “A hugely successful morning! Our Year 7 boys are talking about fiction as much as they ordinarily talk about football".
Now on to some news of sporting success. We are delighted to announce that both our Year 9 and Year 11 teams have qualified for the Greater Manchester County Basketball Finals. We hope to have news of their success in next week's paper.
Also, last week, in the very cold weather, our Year 9 and 10 girls' football team played 4 league matches at Matthew Moss. They beat St. Cuthbert’s by 1 goal to nil, drew nil-nil against both Holy Family and Hollingworth and then beat Middleton by a whopping 4 goals to nil. They played superbly throughout and were a credit to the school. Well done to Frankie Bagshaw, Chloe Marshall, Demi Hogarth, Laraib Afsal and Lucy Moore from Year 9, and also Aroosa Hussain and Alivia Marshall from Year 10.
