Man jailed after raping three girls

Date published: 20 January 2012

A man from Haslingden who attacked and raped three girls at a house in Rochdale has been jailed for 14 years.

Shofik Ali, 22, of Wells Street, Haslingden was sentenced at Bolton Crown Court on Tuesday following a trial.

The court heard that Ali had been drinking with the girls while they were driven around East Lancashire before ending up at a house in Rochdale. Later police were called to the house after an argument broke out and Ali was smashing furniture. The police took him away so he could travel home but he went back, took the victims mobile phones and attacked them.

He raped all three of the girls and forced one of them to have sex with him again – threatening to burn down the house if she refused.

Ali denied four offences of rape and one assault by penetration.

He was convicted of the four rapes and found not guilty of the other charge.

He was jailed for 14 years and was ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register for life.
