Good turnout expected for consultation on equalities

Date published: 24 January 2008

More than 50 people have signed up to take part in a consultation event being run by Rochdale Borough Council next week.

The Equalities Listening Event is taking place on Tuesday 29 January - and for the first time is being held in the Heywood Township.

Councillor Keith Swift, cabinet member for corporate management and townships, said: "This promises to be a great success. The event in Heywood is the first of a planned series of session right across the borough. It shows that the council wants to get out and meet people and seek their views on the service being provided."

The Equalities Listening Event is happening at the Heywood Civic Centre from 9.30am, and local residents going along will be able to comment on the potential barriers to accessing services and securing employment, faced by men, women, younger people, older people, people with disabilities and those from black and ethnic minority communities.

Councillor Swift, who is also Rochdale Borough Council's Equality and Diversity Champion, added: "I am keen to continue devolution to townships and by going out and holding these events all over the borough, we are showing that the council is willing to get out of the Black Box and engage with as many people as possible."
