Four rescued from fire
Date published: 15 January 2012
Three adults and a baby have been rescued from a fire at a block of flats in Heywood.
Fire-fighters were called to High Street at around 10.50pm on Friday (13 January).
They carried out a search of the two storey building, rescued one man and led a man, woman and baby to safety.
The fire involved rubbish in the stairwell and is now being investigated by police.
Three crews were at the scene for an hour.
Control Room operators received a number of calls from residents trapped in their flats by smoke, one included a mother with a six-month-old baby. They gave life saving advice to the occupants whilst fire-fighters were en route.
They were given first aid at the scene and the mother and her baby were taken to hospital but have since been discharged.
