Plan to use pub as polling station scrapped
Date published: 13 January 2012
A plan to use a pub as a polling station has been scrapped.
The Talbot Head on Shawclough Road had been put forward as a site for people in the area to vote in May’s local election.
But the idea has been thrown out following concerns from Councillors.
Healey Councillor Tom Bailey said: “A pub is no place to have a polling station.
“There is a busy main road and there would not be enough space for it to be a completely separate entity.”
Councillor Wera Hobhouse echoed the concerns about parking at the pub.
Councillors have resolved to use a mobile unit on Bentley Street instead.
