Congratulations to Cara McGlinchey in Year 11 who was the outstanding overall winner of the Rochdale Wheatsheaf Centre Christmas X-Factor Competition. Cara beat off several hopefuls to win a recording studio session with VIP travel. Well done to Cara, Sara Hadfield and Elisha Blomfield for their impressive efforts.
The CEPA booklet for parents titled ‘How to Help Your Child Develop in the Arts’ is now available on our school website. The eight page booklet offers parents, guardians and family the opportunity to participate in valuable learning activities at home. Copies are to be distributed to Year 7 and Year 8 parents but more copies are available to other years upon request. See Mr DeCourcey for details.
The CALL Year 7 booklet centered on paired reading has been issued this week to parents. Parents and selected learners will be invited into school to discuss reading and attend a special meeting very soon.
We have been overwhelmed by the enthusiastic response of learners to our Great Arts Word Trail Competition. If you have not yet received a copy of the entry form due to high demand then please see Mr DeCourcey as soon as possible. Remember that the competition ends on the last school day in January 2012.
Letters for our theatre visit to see ‘Oliver’ at The Palace Theatre in Manchester in early February are now available from Mr DeCourcey and Ms Williams. Places are offered on a ‘first come, first served’ basis. There are limited places available and the visit is open to all years.
We have been delighted to work alongside Rochdale Infirmary Players as the group rehearses for its’ February production of ‘Mother Goose’. Several of our Technical Theatre and Drama students are involved in the backstage work. We wish them the very best with the show and hope that you will all come along to support a regularly superb acting group.
BTEC Drama students are now underway with scripted work centered around the topic of old age. A range of scripts are being rehearsed and will be performed in mid February. Please ensure that your child has a copy of the script for support at home and rehearsal space is available at lunchtime or after school. See Mr DeCourcey for more details.
