Temporary closures of libraries

Heywood library is closed due to major refurbishment works and is due to reopen in the summer of 2008. Some of the stock at Heywood Library, notably the best sellers and graphic novels, have been temporarily transferred to Darnhill Library. We have also extended the opening hours at Darnhill Library, which is now also open on Wednesday mornings and Saturday afternoons. Children's storysacks have been temporarily transferred to Spotland Library. The number of events and activities for very young children at Spotland Library have been increased.

Smallbridge library closed for approximately four months from 31 December 2007. The library needed to close for essential building work including replacing the heating system and the floor. The nearest alternative libraries are the Wheatsheaf Library, Wardle Library and Belfield Library.

Langley Library is closed for the week beginning 21 January 2008 as it moves from the old library building into its new home in Langley Children's Centre, which is just next door. The nearest alternative library is Middleton Library.

Alkrington library is closed for approximately three weeks from 21 January 2008 for essential buildings works. A toilet suitable for the use of disabled people in being installed as part of the Council's ongoing commitment to greater accessibility of services. The nearest alternative library is Middleton Library.
