Images released after attempted robbery
Date published: 05 January 2012
Police have released CCTV images following an attempted robbery in Rochdale.
At 6.10pm on Friday 16 December 2011, a man walked into the Newbold General Store on Bilberry Street.
He walked up to the counter where two members of staff were working and threatened them with a knife.
He demanded cash and struck the till with the weapon.
One worker pointed to the CCTV camera before he left empty handed.
No one was injured.
The man is described as being white, in his 20s, around 5ft 6in tall and of slim build. He was wearing a grey tracksuit, a black scarf that covered his face and black gloves. He carried a grey drawstring bag with the logo of a white horse on its hind legs and spoke with a local accent.
Detective Constable Claire Rawcliffe from Rochdale CID said: “Thankfully no one was hurt and nothing was stolen. Obviously the offender was spooked when he realised there was CCTV and ran off.
“I would urge people to take a good look at the image and if they recognise this man, to contact police as soon as possible.”
Anyone with information should phone police on 0161 856 8552 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
