Over 400 people attend leisure jobs event
Date published: 29 December 2011
More than 400 local residents looking for jobs or training in the leisure industry attended a event hosted by Kashmir Youth Project (KYP) and Link4Life.
The ‘Jobs in Leisure’ event at the Unity House Centre on Belfield Road, was specifically arranged to prepare jobseekers for the forthcoming June 2012 opening of the new Rochdale Leisure Centre.
Link4Life staff were on hand to provide information on the many new job opportunities that will arise and to raise awareness of relevant local training.
There was information on the wider training and skills opportunities available within the Leisure industry by staff from Hopwood Hall College, Bury College and Rochdale Training
Zulf Ahmed, KYP’s Director of Learning & Skills, was thrilled with the turnout. He said: “The interest has been amazing with people travelling from across the borough to learn more about the potential jobs on offer and the support available to improve their chances of finding work in this field.
“It just goes to show how committed local people are to getting on the career ladder, despite these difficult times.
“KYP is here to help as many jobseekers as possible, as well as assisting businesses with their recruitment needs.
Craig McAteer, Managing Director of Link4Life said: “The event provided an excellent opportunity to promote the new Rochdale Leisure Centre and the jobs that are on offer.
"We were particularly pleased with the level of interest shown and the enthusiasm of local people in wanting to take on these jobs.”
The £10.8m new Rochdale Leisure Centre comprises swimming pools, sports hall and fitness centre.
