Tips for a happy Christmas from transport police

British Transport Police wants all rail passengers and staff to have a safe and happy festive season and have the following 12 tips people can follow to make sure this is the case:
1. Plan your return journey before you start drinking
2. Know your limits when it comes to alcohol
3. Stay awake while travelling
4. Look after friends and colleagues
5. Keep an even temper
6. Zip up your bags
7. Travel with a friend, if possible
8. Report suspicious behaviour
9. Mind the gap between the train and platform
10. Keep a close eye on your belongings, especially Christmas shopping
11. Be wise to potential pickpockets - keep purses and wallets close to your body and out of sight
12. Have a happy Christmas and safe New Year from British Transport Police.
